3 Dimensional Photography – Holographic Art by Patrick Boyd

3 April 2018 - 28 April 2018

We are delighted that our opening guest exhibition of the season is showcasing such a fascinating mix of science and art. The exhibition will be open 11am to 4:30pm Tuesday to Sunday, closed on Mondays.

Holographic Art by Patrick Boyd

Patrick Boyd works at the intersection of photography, holography, art and science, combining all with installation and a unique graphic language. He aims to create imagery that is both compelling and emotive. His works of meticulously created installations and captured sequences blur the boundaries between two and three dimensions presenting a colourful world where real life, narrative, light and shadow connect and collide.

Born in London in 1960, Patrick Boyd’s initial training was in Photography at West Surrey College of Art where he achieved an BA Hons, then he did an MA in Photography and Holography at the Royal College of Art in London (1985-88).

Patrick says, “A few years ago I started making holograms again after a long absence from the medium. I ran a kickstarter campaign to get the necessary funds and built a lab in my basement. I managed to make a series of holograms and holographic stereograms based around cinematography. The stereograms are small movies with no cast, set or script. The camera is an instrument, much like the human eye, that is best used to explore these happenings in real life. The moments of time are then preserved with depth and time in a ghost like memory.

The resulting work was shown in 3 solo shows in London, Youngstown, Ohio and DeLand in Florida. The exhibition (Man with a Holo Camera, After Vertov’s “Man with a Movie Camera) has just finished in Florida and is on its way back to the U.K”
