You are invited to the Monday 3rd Sept Preview of Jon George’s Exhibition

Advert for Preview on 3rd Sept Jon George

We hope you will be able to join us this coming Monday eve for the final preview event of this season. This is to showcase the exhibition of drawings and paintings by Jon George that will be in the gallery from 4th to 29th September. Read more about Jon George and his exhibition here.

The evening will include an improvised performance by well known local musician, Barry Lim, in conversation with the exhibiting artist, Jon George, in which they will explore the stories of Jon’s travels and his art, with original musical compositions by Barry. The two have performed this improvised format for a previous event, entitled ‘Africa on a Bike and other Journeys,’ at Chisenhale Studios before an appreciative audience.

While Jon is with us, he is running a 5 day workshop in Egg Tempera Painting from Tuesday 4th to Saturday 8th September. There are still a couple of places left if you want to join that course and learn about this fascinating historic method of painting. Read more about the course here. The work from the participants of this course will be exhibited alongside Jon’s.

The conversation with Jon and Barry will be followed by performances from the regular Monday night acoustic folk musicians.

This is the last of the preview evenings for the season, as we do not have any guest exhibitions in the Autumn and Winter. The programme will start up again next April.

Photos from the Mawddach Art Group preview of the exhibition that is open until 2 September

There was a very pleasant evening of art and music yesterday at the preview of the Mawddach Art Group exhibition combined with the regular Monday acoustic folk music. If you have chance to call in and have a look at the exhibition before it closes on 2nd September, it is well worth a look. A variety of styles and materials and perhaps something you would like to buy at a very reasonable price. Here are some photos of the evening (if you click on any image the set will open up to scroll through in a larger format).

Fancy being a Puppet Master? We are experimenting with creating a Giant Puppet Dance Group, to perform, initially, at the Puppet Carnival on July 23rd. The aim is to create simple round dances that can be performed by these giants. Hard and hot work, but could be a lot of fun.

First meeting will be on Friday 15th July at 7.30pm in St John’s Hall Gallery, Barmouth

Just turn up if you’re interested.
