We are so pleased to announce that the guest exhibition at St John’s Hall Gallery in May is work from an artist who came to the gallery a couple of years ago for an Atelier Day. Alexandra Cook (aka Linandara) is based in Newtown, Powys. She submitted an exhibition proposal in answer to our open call and we liked her work a lot. In this exhibition there will be 10 artworks in mixed media (mostly acrylics and inks). All the work is part of a series that is about a possible technological future, neither dystopian nor utopian, but full of space wanderings and wonders. The exhibition is titled “VopreKin” (the name originates from Russian “Вопреки / Vopreki” – Despite), and is about imagining a bright future, what it is and what it is not, how to reach it.
The exhibition will be open each day 11am to 4:30pm from Tuesday 1st May to Thursday 31st May, except closed on Mondays.
If you are free, please come to the preview event at 7:30pm on Monday 30th April. There will be the usual refreshments and live folk music, and you can meet the artist.
